Neck Lift
Neck Lift in Ottawa With Dr. Loizides
A neck lift, or lower rhytidectomy, is surgery to tighten and smooth the skin on your neck, remove excess fat, and tighten underlying muscles. While most people think of the face as the key to youthful appearance, the neck also plays a crucial role and may even show signs of aging earlier than the face. A neck lift corrects these telltale signals of aging. It can also enhance your jawline definition and make you look thinner.
Dr. Photis Loizides offers neck lift surgery in Ottawa to help patients look younger and more attractive. Dr. Loizides is a plastic surgeon fully accredited with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. With his extensive training and deep expertise in cosmetic and reconstructive surgery, he consistently helps patients achieve the changes they are seeking with natural-looking plastic surgery results.

Why Might I Consider a Neck Lift?
You might start thinking about getting a neck lift if you’re struggling with concerns like these:
- Hanging skin under your chin and on your neck (a “turkey wattle”)
- Excess fat on your neck and under your chin, creating the appearance of a double chin
- Loose neck skin
- Sagging skin and unwanted fat under your jawline (jowls)
- Prominent muscle banding on your neck
For a more comprehensive rejuvenation, you can combine a neck lift with other surgeries, such as a facelift, brow lift, or eyelid lift. Non-surgical treatments also pair well with a neck lift to improve the appearance of your face and neck.
The best candidates for a neck lift are in good health, don’t smoke, and have realistic expectations for the results of the surgery. If you smoke, you will need to quit using tobacco for several weeks before and after your surgery.

What Happens During a Neck Lift?
A neck lift is a combination of procedures, customized to address each patient’s unique needs. The surgery requires either general anesthesia or local anesthesia with mild sedation, depending on your unique surgical plan. At your consultation, Dr. Loizides will explain the approach he plans to take for your procedure.
- If you are having a neck lift to remove excess skin on your neck and under your chin, Dr. Loizides may make incisions in the natural folds around your ear and along your hairline in front of and behind your ears. Through these incisions, he will remove excess skin and fat. He may also redistribute some of the fat to areas that need extra volume.
- If you are getting a neck lift to correct jowls or a turkey neck, Dr. Loizides may make additional incisions under your chin.
- Dr. Loizides may use liposuction if your neck lift requires removing excess fat under your chin and on your neck. In some cases, he can use the same incisions made to tighten skin and muscles to suction out fat. If your skin is resilient and does not need tightening, he might make the small incisions necessary for liposuction under your chin or behind your ears.
After making all the desired changes, Dr. Loizides will use fine sutures to close external incisions in a way that minimizes visible scarring.
The procedure typically takes two to three hours, depending on your tailored surgical plan. After Dr. Loizides has finished your surgery and you are fully alert, you will be free to go home. You should arrange ahead of time to have a friend or family member drive you home and stay with you for at least the first night.
What to Expect in Recovery
You will need to stay home from work and limit your activities for 10 to 14 days after surgery to give your neck time to heal. You may feel some tightness at first, and possibly some discomfort, which you can manage with pain medication. We may provide you with a compression bandage to help reduce any post-surgical swelling and bruising.
After a few days of rest, you can gradually resume light activities according to Dr. Loizides’ care instructions. Over the next three to four weeks, you can gradually build your fitness level back up to more strenuous exercises.
Dr. Loizides will provide you with complete care instructions during the healing process, including when he’d like to see you for follow-up visits. He will be available to answer any questions you have and address any concerns.
